Firestorm Find New Strength in Diversity
Established in 2004, Firestorm Fire Protection initially specialised in fire suppression systems servicing the underground coal mining industry and this sustained and grew the business over a number years. The change in opportunities in the mining industry due to the recent downturn, led to a strategy of diversification into new markets with a strong focus in the commercial and transport industries, whilst maintaining a focus on the mining sector through innovative product development.
Firestorm’s dedication to research and development and sourcing and testing of emerging and innovative technologies has paid dividends. They have expanded into the construction, forestry, transport, manufacturing, construction and commercial where and have now undertaken thousands of installations for vehicles, plant, equipment and premises.
Key to this diversification and growth has been the development and commercialisation of the Fogmaker water mist fire suppression system which is widely used throughout the Australian construction, underground mining sector and transport sectors for engine rooms and semi-enclosed spaces. In particular, their growth in the transport sector has taken the business to new heights.
“I would like to share a good news story from Firestorm. We were successful in obtaining 100 new fire system installs for the North Connex project on the back of a lead from Hunternet”, reported General Manager Kristian Bischoff.
“This further adds to the major projects of 1,300 Fogmaker water mist fire suppression system installs on buses for State Transit Authority of NSW as well as involvement in the reopening of the Rix Creek North mine (ex Integra Open Cut)”.
“We have plenty on the go at present which is great news for our company in what is still a depressed mining environment”.
This diversification and growth has enabled their workforce to grow by 10 people including 4 long term unemployed people.
As part of Firestorm’s extensive international R&D program, they have also sourced and secured exclusive Australian distribution rights to the internationally-recognised Ultra Fog, and AFEXfire suppression systems. Their solutions network also offers cooling, dust-suppression and odour-control via their Natural Cool brand.
