Future Leaders Program Gala Dinner and Award Night @ Newcastle City Town Hall
Nov 2 @ 7:00 pm – 11:45 pm

The HunterNet Future Leader’s Program incorporates interactive sessions on a range of leadership topics aimed at developing the participant’s leadership skills and expanding their professional
network, while at the same time playing a role in the future economic prosperity of the Hunter Region.

The Hunter’s Brain Drain
Many young people are taking their degrees and leaving the Hunter Region. Outside Newcastle, the Hunter Valley has the state’s lowest number of 25 to 34-year-olds who have a Bachelor degree or higher. At 14.7 per cent, it’s also the equal fifth lowest in the nation. In Lake Macquarie and Newcastle, the rate of 31.2 per cent is more than double the remainder of the valley, however it’s lagging below the national average (Source: Newcastle Herald 2016).

The Challenge for the Hunter Region
To maintain and build on our existing place in the NSW, Australian and Asian economies we must
act now. We need projects, initiatives and policy settings encompassing social and / or economic
considerations to achieve this.

Our 2018 Future Leaders task is to identify what Newcastle and the Hunter can do to arrest the
brain drain and not only keep our bright minds here but also attract talent, skills and businesses from outside the region.

Each team will provide an overview of their solution during the evening with the winning team announced at the end of presentations.

Don’t miss your chance to hear what some of the Hunters brightest young professionals have developed.
