Richard Eveleigh
Chairman
Managing Director, Nepean Longwall Pty Ltd
Richard is a graduate mining engineer involved in the underground coal industry since 1973. Before coming to Australia Richard worked for the National Coal Board in the UK acquiring a First Class Certificate of Competency. In 1980 he joined the Dowty Group, a major longwall mining equipment manufacturer and was involved in the development and application of new longwall equipment in Europe, S Africa and Australia. Richard settled permanently in Australia in 1984 and has been continuously involved in the supply side of longwall mining industry at a senior management level for over 20 years.
In 1997 he founded Inbye Mining Services Pty Ltd and became its first employee. Inbye Mining has since developed to become a respected and successful Australian supplier of longwall mining equipment and services. The company has promoted the local design and manufacture of specialist longwall equipment. In 2011 Inbye Mining Services became part of Nepean as Nepean Longwall, the Australian privately owned engineering and manufacturing business.

Garry Baunach
Director
Director, Simulation Modelling Services Pty Ltd
Garry began his career as a metallurgist at (then) BHP’s Newcastle Steelworks subsequently joining and later heading the Operations Research Department. In 1985, he moved from the steelworks to BHP subsidiary, Mount Newman Mining Co (later BHP Iron Ore) located in Port Hedland, WA where, as Technical Manager, he became a user of such services to assist with the task of strategic planning.
In 1986 he left the BHP Group to set up Simulation Modelling Services Pty Ltd.
As Managing Director of SMS, Garry and his team provide computer simulation modelling and production scheduling consulting to industry – the mining industry in particular in recent years – both here in Australia and around the globe.

Nick Killin
Director
Business Development Manager, GHD
Nick holds the position of Business Development Manager at GHD’s Newcastle operating centre. Prior to joining GHD, over the past two decades, he has held senior business development and marketing positions involving regional research, advanced manufacturing and export oriented companies. Nick is also experienced in the management of large manufacturing plants and maintains a keen interest in regional development.

Tim Hardy
Director
General Manager, Newcastle Machine Shop
With over 35 years experience in the manufacturing industry, Tim began his career as an apprentice fitter/machinist in the UK. After studying Mechanical Engineering part time, he went from apprentice to Production Manager with the same company, before holding positions as Quality Manager & Production Controller with a number of Engineering companies. Following his arrival in Australia in 1990, Tim has held a number of Management roles with Onesteel Waratah, Sandvik Hydamatic and Waratah Engineering, before joining Newcastle Machine Shop as General Manager in 2004.

Stephen Cowan
Director
General Manager, Freight Operations - East, UGL - Rail
Steve hold the position of GM Operations East in the UGL Rail business, with responsibility for the manufacturing and assembly sites on the east coast. Prior to joining UGL Steve had senior Operations and Supply Chain roles in Australian and international fmcg businesses. In addition Steve has worked through several successful business turnarounds. Steve is a qualified as a mechanical engineer and is a member of the AICD.

Anita Hugo

Communications Leader, Tomago Aluminium
Anita has been managing internal and external communications for Tomago Aluminium for the past five years. She has over 10 years experience in Public Relations roles for Government and Private Sector organisations, together with over fifteen years experience in the health industry sector in departmental management and public affairs roles. Anita holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Marketing and has spent time with Rural Press as a journalist.

Jeff Phillips

Jeff has extensive experience at a senior management level in the engineering field, beginning his career at BHP Newcastle Steelworks and qualifying as an Electrical Engineer. In 1993 Jeff commenced employment with the Varley Group and in 1995 was appointed Managing Director. In 2000 Jeff was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Varley group of companies.
Jeff also holds the following positions: Chairman of Products & Services Group at Industry Development Centre; Past Chairman at Hunter Industry Group, Committee Member and Past Chairman at Australian Industry Group; Board Member for Hunter Manufacturing Awards; and Committee Member at Hunter Defence Industry Strategy Centre and Edgeworth Football Club.

Chris Reeve
Director
Sales Manager, Precision Oxycut
Chris has engineering qualifications in foundry technology, industrial radiography, metallurgy and general machining and has worked for some of the largest engineering businesses in Australia. He also has considerable experience in heavy defence industries, transport equipment, mining equipment, valve and metal recycling industries and has developed a number of marketing and business plans when a partner in a consulting business.
Chris has been managing exports of manufactured products for over 25 years and involved in exporting to over 30 different countries and his most recent success was selling a brick plant into Mongolia. He has a thorough understanding of the region and good connections within the hunter engineering community where he has worked for the last 20 years.

John Gambrill
Director
Manager, Newcastle Field Maintenance
John joined Newcastle Field Maintenance in 1994 as BHP Site Manager and was appointed General Manager in 1995. Prior to this John has worked as a mechanical and project engineer for BHP, The Electricity Commission of NSW and ABB Constructions.
Over this 30 year period John has gained broad experience in maintenance, construction and fabrication through servicing the power, steel, aluminium, waterfront, utilities and mining sectors. John is a previous Vice Chair of the Hunter Manufacturing Council and a current member of the Hunter Industry Leaders Council.

John Coyle
Chief Executive Officer

John commenced his career in sales, marketing and advertising in Australia and the UK, with a focus on industrial and manufacturing markets. Prior to joining HunterNet, John was Managing Director of BEP Engineering and the Treloar Group of Companies.
Currently, John is on the board of HunterNet Group Training Company, Varley and Newcastle Innovation (The University of Newcastle Research Associates Ltd), and is a Section Councillor on NSW Council AIG, member and past Chairman of the Hunter Manufacturing Council, past Director of the Hunter Export Centre. John is also a Director of the Hunter Community Foundation and is a member on the TAFE NSW Hunter Institute Advisory Council.
