On 27 October 2022, the Federal Government introduced landmark IR reforms into Parliament through its Pay Equity and Secure Jobs Bill. These reforms will have an impact on all workplaces across Australia, and represent the most significant changes to industrial relations in at least a decade.
The proposed changes include:
- A significant shake-up to the current enterprise bargaining system (including multi-employer bargaining).
- An ability for the Fair Work Commission to arbitrate bargaining disputes and impose outcomes on businesses.
- Giving the Fair Work Commission to determine disputes about flexible working arrangements.
- Banning ‘pay secrecy’ clauses.
- Imposing limitations on fixed-term contracts.
HunterNet Cooperative Member and leading workplace law firm Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA) have developed a 3-part series of detailed Guides outlining the key aspects of the proposed reforms.
