The Future Land Use and Enabling Works project for Liddell Power Station has received State and Federal Government approval paving way for the site to be demolished, remediated and transformed for future industrial land uses.
Management plans required under the consent conditions are currently under development and a timeline for full demolition works will be communicated once these are complete.
In the interim, early-stage demolition work is underway in accordance with a Complying Development Certificate and this has seen heavy duty specialist machinery dismantle the transformers, with the components processed or recycled resulting in 160 tonnes of scrap removed from site over the past month.
Hazardous material from the administration and amenities buildings have also been removed and the main warehouse has been emptied.
“The preliminary works have been a great opportunity to test our demolition processes before we begin full-scale demolition and I’m pleased to say it’s been a smooth run so far,” said Site Manager Liddell Transition James Coventry.
“One of our focus areas has been ensuring safe heavy vehicle movement as we coordinate trucks heading out with scrap metal from demolition works at the same time as equipment for the build of Liddell Battery comes in.
