With the ever-increasing hype around big data, machine learning, with the latest talk on OpenAI and ChatGPT, what does it mean for everyday business, what might it look like for manufacturers, not just a web based business where data is centric to its operations?

This session is aimed to help members learn more about what “the walk” might actually look like when they’ve been bombarded with a whole lot of “talk” about data manipulation, future jobs displacement etc. Hear what some with deep experience from HunterNet’s own membership have to share on the matter.

Who should attend:

• Production / Operations Managers

• Industrial R&D / Innovation Managers

• Executives

• Technical Strategy

• Business Improvement

• General Managers/Owners

Please arrive at 7.45am for an 8am START.

SPEAKERS

Hamish Waterer is Lead Applied Mathematics at Advitech, a member of Emergent Group. His area of expertise is operations research, often called the “science of better”, which is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to make better decisions. Through the analysis of varied data sets and subsequent mathematical modelling, Advitech can help businesses with challenges such as managing inventory and demand; scheduling transportation; planning infrastructure design, expansion, maintenance and renewals; and improving production planning, scheduling, and distribution.

Hamish will give an overview of what businesses can do with data, the data analytics journey a business might take, and show how you can increase the productivity and competitive advantage of your business by increasing the degree of analytical capability or “data intelligence” in your business.

Liam Manning is Chief Commercial Officer and partner at SAPHI – a team of tech-agnostic solution providers specialising in the design, development, and integration of:

– Industry 4.0 Technologies

– Robotics Automation

– AI/ML Systems

– ESG Data Capture

– Aftermarket Big Data Solutions

Liam’s contribution will be around demystifying technology, emphasising it is only an amplifier of your business’ strategy. If business strategy is poor, it will amplify poor outcomes. Liam will discuss the importance of understanding the goals of the business, where you are heading BEFORE moving forward with digitisation. Once the strategy is in place, progress can then evaluate what the current landscape is in terms of technology and data before then evaluating the outcomes needed to achieve to progress the priority. Liam will also share HOW you actually go about it: separating the endeavour into a discrete project, evaluating the market for the right solution and considering integration requirements from day one (Where is this data going? How will we be using it?), and finally; How to then deploy the solution, sustaining it long-term and retiring it.

Alex McClung is the founder of Traversal Labs; he helps industrial companies set and reach their automation goals, facilitating the implementation of advanced robotics and machine learning technologies. He has a decade of experience building autonomous robots, 7 Years Experience with Machine Learning. His speciality is Machine Perception; enabling machines to see.

Alex will untangle recent advancements in machine learning, comparing generative models (able to synthesise new material through learned patterns) with discriminative models (able to classify and group together data points of different modalities). Alex will explore the implications of the “software 2.0” paradigm on the next generation of business processes; outlining approaches for human-machine collaboration to enhance productivity and capability across a selection of business functions (operations, planning, design).
