The recently announced Defence Industry Development Grant (DIDG) program is a pivotal development for Australian businesses in the Defence sector. To ensure HunterNet members and Hunter Defence are well informed and prepared to take advantage of the opportunities it presents we have developed an information session in collaboration with KPMG.

The DIDG program, unveiled by The Hon. Pat Conroy MP, Minister for Defence Industry, offers a substantial opportunity for eligible businesses to build the industrial base Australia needs to achieve Defence outcomes in areas of strategic priority. Each stream of funding is focused on the following outcomes:

  1. Sovereign Industrial Priorities Stream – funding of up to $1 million
    Supports the purchase manufacturing plant and equipment directly used to develop and/or deliver programs in line with Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities (SDIPs).
  2. Exports Stream – funding of up to $250,000
    Supports projects to overcome export barriers and build defence industry scale and competitiveness in line with SDIPs.
  3. Skilling Stream – funding of up to $250,000
    Supports projects to upskill and train in priority trade, technical and professional skillsets to develop a workforce with the right mix of qualified and experienced personnel.
  4. Security Stream – funding of up to $100,000
    Supports projects to improve and maintain security within the national industry base in line with SDIPs.

A total of up to $153.6 million is available, with $39 million available each year until 2027/2028. Co-contribution of at least 50% of the eligible project cost is required by applicants.

  3. Understanding the various funding streams and focus areas;
  4. Maximising your positioning for a successful application; and
  5. Detailed guidelines and available support.
