
Tuesday 8th March is International Women’s Day.
HunterNet invites you to celebrate this important day with us, as we showcase the achievements of women and diversity in our region and abroad.
Successful outcomes ar emore likely in a diverse world. Our speakers will demonstrate how they have been breaking biases and stereotypes in industry. They’ll discuss how our region has offered and continues offering the opportunity to do so in what is typically characterised as a conservative environment.

Guest speakers for the day are:

Captain Jeanine Drummond: an experienced cargo ship’s captain, harbour master and maritime leader. Jeanine was Newcastle’s first female harbour master now operates her boutique consulting business providing specialist advice on maritime, ports and shipping matters and working as a non-executive director on the maritime industry and regulatory boards. Jeanine is passionate about increasing and normalising female participation in traditionally male represented workforces.

Clare Sykes: BE, GAICD: Clare’s career began as one of the first female mining engineers to work in the underground coal industry in NSW. Previously the GM International Markets with METS Ignited, in March 2021, Ms Sykes was appointed as the inaugural Cluster Manager for NewH2, the Hunter Hydrogen Technology Cluster. She serves on the Advisory Board of NIER, is the current Chair for Resources NSW, an initiative of the Energy & Resources Knowledge Hub.

Sonia James: Engineer, Rising Star Hunter Manufacturing Awards (HMA) 2021 – Born and brought up in a small city in India, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Sonia initially conformed with societal constraints and learned Electronics and Communications Engineering. Following her passion for Mechanical Engineering, she migrated to Australia, where she was embraced by ArmorGalv, a Hunter-based Manufacturer, in August 2020. Recipient of the HMA 2021 Rising Star Award, Sonia is also a trained Indian Classical Dancer.
Following the above guest speakers will be a panel of HunterNet Group Training Trainees and Apprentices. Natasha will lead a Q&A on pathways and challenges for these emerging leaders.
