Exploring Maritime Pathways: Industry Immersion Day Inspires the Next Generation
HunterNet Career Connections was proud to support the recent Maritime EPP – Industry Immersion Day, held on Friday, offering students a unique and hands-on experience into the dynamic world of maritime and port operations.
The day began with an engaging visit to DPI Taylors Beach, where students explored aquaculture restoration initiatives and marine development programs. A special highlight was witnessing the early stages of marine life with baby seahorses, sparking curiosity around aquaculture and sustainable practices.
Participants also delved into the science of sustainable fisheries and marine breeding programs, gaining an understanding of the critical work being done to preserve our ocean ecosystems while supporting industry growth.
The immersive experience continued aboard Bay Connections and The Princess with Nova Cruises, offering a practical perspective on commercial marine operations. Cruising the bay gave students a unique view of the coastline and insight into vessel operation and tourism-based maritime careers.
To round out the day, students attended a career information session exploring diverse pathways into maritime and port operations, from hands-on trades to logistics, training, and environmental stewardship. Industry professionals shared valuable advice, highlighted training opportunities, and inspired students to consider the broad scope of maritime careers.
The event was a powerful demonstration of how industry and education can work together to create meaningful career exploration experiences, and we thank all our participating partners for helping make it a success.
