Hunter Innovator ControlX Impresses GRX25 with AI-Powered Industrial Programming
Local Newcastle-based engineering company and HunterNet member, ControlX Engineering, made an impression at the recent GRX25 resources expo, showcasing their AI-powered programming software, JasperNode. The innovative tool, designed to simplify the development of control logic and complex SCADA functions for industrial automation, captured the attention of numerous attendees, including heads of innovation from major mining industry players.
JasperNode aims to tackle critical challenges in the industrial sector, such as the shortage of skilled controls engineers and the often time-consuming, cumbersome process of control logic development. By leveraging natural language through an AI chat interface, JasperNode allows for rapid code generation, potentially reducing development time by up to 45%. The software also features integrated version control with AI summaries, addressing long-standing issues with change management and tracking in PLC programming.
Visitors to the ControlX booth were visibly impressed with the live demonstration, where they could interact directly with the JasperNode AI chat. The system capably translated natural language prompts into control logic for a demonstration PLC unit. One particularly striking example of its capability was when a visitor prompted the AI to “Set the flashing of the light to the timed Melody of four acts Serenade for Strings in E”. JasperNode successfully executed the request, showcasing the sophisticated potential of the technology. This hands-on experience left many acknowledging the pioneering work ControlX is undertaking, recognising that AI in control systems is an inevitable future, with this ambitious Hunter company leading the charge
