Many, if not most, HunterNet members are manufacturers whose businesses are underpinned by key intellectual property (IP).  It is critical that businesses take stock of their IP assets, consider what intellectual property rights they own and how to best protect those rights.

HunterNet has facilitated a collaboration between SWS Lawyers and Angela McDonald, specialist IP barrister, to host a series of informal seminars designed to familiarise members with typical IP rights in manufacturing businesses, acquaint them with the protections available and how to secure those protections, and explain the potential consequences of a failure to adequately protect their IP.

The presenters include Richard Suters, a commercial lawyer and principal of HunterNet’s Member of the Year – SWS Lawyers, with more than 25 years’ experience in contract and commercial law, including a specialisation in IP, and Angela McDonald, a barrister with extensive knowledge and experience in intellectual property disputes and large commercial matters.

The series will commence with an overview of IP rights to help the members consider and identify the IP (or types of IP) they are likely to have or use in their businesses, along with how to best protect those IP rights.  The second seminar will offer a more in-depth analysis of trade marks and brand protection, and the third seminar will take a deep dive into patents, designs and confidential information.
