Trailblazer Apprentice Panel: Stories of Determination
One of the standout moments of the luncheon was the Trailblazer Apprentice Panel, where remarkable apprentices shared their journeys and experiences in the trades and engineering sectors. Their stories of resilience and dedication served as an inspiration to all attendees.
Our Trailblazers:
🌟 Eliza McLean – A mature-aged electrical apprentice at UGL, Eliza shared her unique path into the trades, having transitioned from various industries before securing her apprenticeship. She spoke passionately about the importance of hands-on learning and problem-solving in a challenging yet rewarding field.
⚙️ Isla Johnston – With a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical under her belt, Isla discussed her experiences at Hedweld Group of Companies and GOSS Engineering. Now pursuing a Certificate IV in Hydraulics, she highlighted the importance of continuous learning and skill development.
🛠 Tasmyn Fellows – A mechanical engineering graduate, Tasmyn reflected on her apprenticeship at GOSS Engineering, Inc. and her ongoing professional growth as she works toward her Certificate IV in Hydraulics.
The panellists’ insights into overcoming challenges and thriving in their chosen careers left a lasting impression on the audience, sparking meaningful conversations about the future of women in trades.
Inspiring Words from Industry Leaders
The event also featured two distinguished keynote speakers who have paved the way for women in leadership and technical roles.
Clare Larkin-Sykes
Clare, Managing Director of Forelight Advisory and Co-Lead of New.E (formerly NewH2), shared her extensive experience in the mining and energy sectors. She spoke about her journey from an engineering role with BHP to leadership positions in corporate finance, export industries, and government initiatives. Clare’s advocacy for innovation and collaboration resonated deeply with the audience.
Stacey Sleeman
As the first female member of the Ampcontrol Board of Directors, Stacey brought a wealth of experience in corporate finance, business transformation, and leadership. She discussed the importance of fostering diversity in the workplace and shared key lessons from her career in the resources, manufacturing, and renewable energy industries.
