Newcastle Airport has an annual throughput of 1.25 million passengers. The Airport services eight direct destinations along the eastern seaboard and in one-stop connects the region to the rest of Australia and internationally through hub airports Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne.
As one of the Hunter region's major transport hubs, Newcastle Airport is actively working towards meeting the current aviation demands of the region though brining additional flights, creating direct destinations, and accessibility to the region. To deliver these services we are ensuring Newcastle Airport is providing the necessary infrastructure at the right time. In addition, we are working towards future-proofing the region's growing aviation and aerospace needs.
Newcastle Airport is committed to providing connectivity for the Hunter region and NSW, the Airport's continued growth demonstrates it has a clear and focused strategy for the future to deliver successful outcomes for the Hunter region and NSW.
Newcastle Airport forms a key part of the expanding Aerospace Cluster located in the area. In 2014, the Airport generated $1.2 billion in economic value and provided 3,346 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
Newcastle Airport has provided development and management of the airport site through appropriate commercial, infrastructure and security for the development of assets and services. These current support prime defence contractors such as BAE Systems, which in turn support RAAF Base Williamtown.
Newcastle Airport has demonstrated compliance with the RAAF Base's operational requirements including the control of activities within the airside zone whilst maintaining the required high level of security. The existing relationship between Newcastle Airport and BAE demonstrates the Airport's ability to provide the conditions required for key defence industries to successfully operate and provide the essential support services for the RAAF.
