The Mai-Wel Group: Celebrating Art, Creativity and Community

We’re thrilled to share the latest update from The Mai-Wel Group! Over the past few months, our participants have been buzzing with creativity and community spirit, exploring new artistic mediums, engaging in inspiring projects, and collaborating on initiatives that showcase the incredible talent within our community. One standout project is our involvement in the “Walls that Talk” initiative, a collaboration with Maitland City Council’s Place Activation team. This exhibition not only celebrates the artistic achievements of our participants but also reinforces our ongoing commitment to empowering individuals through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Walls that Talk: Our Latest Collaboration

‘Walls that Talk’ is a place activation initiative that displays images on the facade of Maitland City Library, offering engaging visual exhibitions for the entire community.

This year’s exhibition, “I Am…,” is particularly meaningful to us. It features the stunning work of seven talented artists from Mai-Wel, each of whom has created a headpiece that reflects their personal journey and explores themes of identity, self-expression, and inspiration.

Guided by skilled mentors, our artists participated in NDIS-supported workshops over an eight-week journey of exploration and discovery. These sessions provided more than just artistic opportunities – they were spaces for building confidence, exploring identity, and sharing ideas in a supportive environment.
