Hunter Representative Contributes to Global Revision

Hunter Defence Task Force Foundation Member Michael McLean played a direct role in the international standards development process as a representative from Australia. Serving as an Australian Industry Group delegate for both the Hunter region and nationally, McLean contributed insights gained from more than a decade of involvement in ISO standards development.

As an engineering, manufacturing and defence sector management consultant, McLean brought practical business experiences and member feedback into the revision process. The development of ISO 9001:2026 attracted thousands of comments from stakeholders worldwide, including significant input from Australia and New Zealand.

According to McLean, the revised standard reflects the challenges organisations face in today’s operating environment, recognising the need for businesses to adapt, invest, innovate and grow while managing both internal and external risks and opportunities. McLean referenced the ex-RAAF Chief Air Force Air Marshall Hupfield that is pertinent in context of the ISO 9001 Revision that now separates risks and opportunities for clearer requirements and guidance: “We will not succeed by just treating risk, we must also drive success by seizing opportunity”.
